Madras High Court said TikTok “encourages pornography” and asked the central government to put a ban on the App. TikTok gives assurance to take necessary action on the matter.
The Application allows the users to create and share 15-sec video and edit it as per the requirement. It is quite popular everywhere in the world and more than 240 million times the application had been downloaded in India.
The Madra High court requested the government to ban this social media platform as it is “encouraging pornography” and children using the APP are highly vulnerable to inappropriate content. Soon Tik Tok in a statement said “At TikTok, we are committed to abiding by local laws and regulations. We fully comply with the Information Technology (Intermediaries Guidelines) Rules, 2011. We are currently awaiting the official order by the Honourable High Court of Madras and once received, we will review and take appropriate action regarding this matter,”
The court on Wednesday in a hearing said the explicit content is the major drawback of the App. It’s not the first time the application has been criticised. Earlier in the US, the app got a lot of negative feedback after exposing young girls to caustic comments and abuse by their peers.
